Day four of Wimbledon 2025 delivered a mix of clinical dominance, major upsets, and high-stakes tension across both singles draws. Second-round action continued, with several top seeds asserting their authority while others exited earlier than expected.
Men’s Singles
Novak Djokovic produced a flawless performance on Centre Court to defeat Britain's Dan Evans 6-3, 6-2, 6-0. In complete control throughout, Djokovic faced no break points and served with precision, putting to rest any lingering concerns about his form following his recovery from injury. At 38, Djokovic is chasing a record 25th Grand Slam title and looked every bit the contender.
World No. 1 Jannik Sinner advanced comfortably, beating Aleksandar Vukic 6-1, 6-1, 6-3. Sinner’s win took just over 90 minutes and continued his streak of authoritative straight-set victories.
In one of the biggest surprises of the day, Marin Čilić upset home favourite Jack Draper [4] with a composed 6-4, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4 win. Čilić, a former finalist, used his experience to disrupt Draper’s rhythm and now becomes the first Croatian player to beat a top-five seed at all four majors. Draper’s loss further destabilises the top half of the draw.
Alex de Minaur [11] bounced back from a slow start to overcome Arthur Cazaux in four sets. Elsewhere, wildcards and lower seeds, including Sebastian Ofner, made their way into round three.
Women’s Singles
Iga Świątek, seeded eighth, recovered from a shaky start to defeat Caty McNally 5-7, 6-2, 6-1. Świątek’s first serve initially let her down, but once she found her rhythm, she overpowered McNally with controlled aggression.
Defending champion Barbora Krejčíková was pushed to three sets by Caroline Dolehide, eventually prevailing 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. It was a test of consistency for Krejčíková, who held her nerve when it mattered most.
Elena Rybakina put in one of the most dominant displays of the day, dismantling Maria Sakkari 6-3, 6-1 in just over an hour. Her serve was nearly untouchable, and her groundstrokes kept Sakkari on the back foot throughout.
Emma Navarro [10] also looked sharp, taking down Veronika Kudermetova 6-1, 6-2 with a well-rounded performance.
In one of the few upsets on the women’s side, Jessica Bouzas Maneiro beat 28th seed Sofia Kenin 6-1, 7-6, showing remarkable poise under pressure.
Looking ahead to the next round
Djokovic will face Miomir Kecmanovic in round three, aiming to maintain his perfect head-to-head record. Świątek takes on Danielle Collins in what promises to be a more physical battle. Marin Čilić will meet Jaume Munar, who made headlines earlier in the week by saving ten match points in qualifying.
Four top-25 men’s seeds were eliminated in a single day: Draper [4], Tommy Paul [13], Tomáš Macháč [21], and Félix Auger-Aliassime [25], shaking up the men’s draw and paving the way for a potentially unpredictable second week.
The mix of top-seed control and dramatic exits suggests a tournament that remains wide open — with the veterans stepping up, new contenders rising, and every round building toward an intriguing finale.
