Jannik Sinner reversed the outcome of last month’s Paris epic with a composed four-set win over Carlos Alcaraz in the 2025 Wimbledon final, claiming his first title at SW19 — and becoming the first Italian man to win the singles crown.

The 6–4, 4–6, 4–6, 4–6 result offered a clean-cut contrast to their last meeting at Roland Garros, where Alcaraz saved multiple championship points and came back from two sets down in a 5-hour 29-minute classic. That match had cemented their rivalry; this one confirmed it’s not one-sided.

“Champions learn from the losses,” Alcaraz said afterwards, acknowledging Sinner’s adjustments. “Today was his turn.”

Sinner’s serve and decision-making held firm throughout the three-hour match. He broke back in key moments, settled quickly after dropping the first set, and kept the pressure high across baseline exchanges. The win ended a five-match losing streak in Slam finals and levelled the head-to-head rivalry.

“End of the day, it doesn’t really matter if I won or lost in Paris,” Sinner said. “It was more important to understand what I did wrong. I’m so grateful that I’m healthy and I have great people around me.”

The final was the third Grand Slam championship meeting between the world No. 1 and No. 2 this season — a rarity that hasn’t occurred since the Federer–Nadal era. But unlike the drama of Paris, this time Sinner kept the momentum controlled and on his terms. There were no match points saved, no lung-busting fifth set — just clarity.

“I’m sure we’ll have many more,” Alcaraz said. “But I’d be fine if the next one’s a little shorter than five hours.”

The win places Sinner at the centre of the men’s game, not just in rankings but in presence. For now, Wimbledon belongs to him — and the rivalry moves forward, not reset but rebalanced.
